OTHER FIX

There are other fixes that have been used in the past and may still provide some use for you today. Some are not needed anymore since the invention of good wrapper programs. Includes the empty MOVIES.CDF file, if you need it to prevent the career/game from crashing when it try's to play a film.

Clean EAW: (CLEANEAW.zip 352kb)
by Raf_Roy.
Old Version of the one fix listed below.

Clean EAW 3v0.1: (CleanEAW3.zip 4.5MB)
by Raf Roy.
Move or Copy EAW 1.2 files to a New Folder. Has new Small EAW Copy option and also for XP (or other) Copies from CD and runs Sydbod's EAW1_26Epatch.exe (it is included). All CleanEAW3 really does for the XP option is it just copies the files from CD then launchs the v1.26e setup installer.
To Clarify:
* Yes Sydbod's 1.26E patch unaltered is included in the zip.
* CleanEAW3 only patches the Copy it makes from CD when you choose the (XP) EAW CD 1.26E patch option
* Just unzip the .zip to its folder and run CleanEAW3.exe
* If you use 'Copy EAW small size' you will have to change your eaw.ini Debug Path= pointer by hand
* Finally NoCD copy works for me! (Yes The 1.26E patch is a NoCD patch)

Large Font HUD with v1.2b: (eaw12b+nocd(LargeFontHUD).zip  or  LargeHUD.zip 520kb)
by King Rat.
Replaces the v1.2a eaw.exe by Dave S.
Contains files to increase the heads up display (HUD) font size in European Air War. This is useful for higher screen resolutions for which the default font gets very small. LARGEHUD.FNT and LARGEHUD.FSP are the font files.  They are just an extraction and rename of one of the fonts (MAINTALL) included in the EAW font.cdf file.

eaw 12 Garbled Cockpit Fix(Glide): (eaw12GarbledCockpitFix(Glide).zip 553kb)
by Andy.
...

Font Choices with v1.2.1: (eaw121+nocd(FontChoices).zip 572kb)
by Jaeger, King Rat.
Replaces the v1.2 eaw.exe. Provides replacement with four types of fonts sizes to choose from, for use in the EAW for the visually challenged! These fonts increase the heads up display (HUD) font size in European Air War.  This is useful for higher screen resolutions for which the default font gets very small. It also removes the CD security check when starting the sim. Old Versions: EAWFONTCHOICES12.zip

Large Font HUD with v1.2.1: (eaw121+nocd(LargeFontHUD).zip 557kb)
by King Rat.
Replaces the v1.2 eaw.exe. Old File name: or  eaw121.zip 557kb

Fake EAW ISO: (EAWXISO.ZIP 2.52kb)
by RAF_Roy.
A fake EAW .iso to run the game with makeVCD / Daemon Tools / Make a Virtual CD Drive.

French Translation: (FrenchTranslation.zip 174kb)
by Tymophil.
...possible a complete French language translation for EAW.

JIMMSN 2008: (JIM2008.zip ??)
by Jel.
JIM is an acronym for "Jel's Instant Missions" It lets you set up mission parameters outside of EAW first and then launch the game. No game screens are used so there is no 7217 error.

It runs single missions, and cannot be used for anything else, it does not have multi-player capability. However, it does at least give those of you with a serious 7217 problem, the chance to fly.

Your EAW folder will need to have a "Savedata" folder in it and you will need to make an "eaw.ini" file. EAW2000 may let you do this outside of EAW.

Here's the text from the instructions

In the "JIM2008.zip" file there is a folder named "JIMFiles".

It contains things which need to be copied and pasted into your EAW directory, namely

"JIM2008V3.EXE" which is the JIM program.
"JIMeaw.exe" which is the specially modified version of the eaw.exe which JIM2008 launches when you click "Fly".
The "JIM" folder which contains all sorts of things that the two exe files need.
The four large special "cdf" files which the JIMeaw.exe uses instead of their normal EAW equivalents.
The "d3d.dll" file which is an updated version of the earlier one and is needed by the "JIMeaw.exe". It works fine with earlier versions of the "eaw.exe"

Do not change any of their names or the programs will not work.
**************************************************************************************
Additional stuff:

If you have never installed any of my software such as OAW then you need to open the OAWRuntimes folder and click "Setup.exe" to install the Visual Basic runtime files needed by JIM2008V3.EXE. Otherwise you will get an error as soon as you try to run it.
There should be no need to do this if you have installed OAW.

The G-AllSelV4 folder contains files which allow you to select and fly the bombers:
B-17, B-24 and B-26
Mosquito
Me 410, Ju88-A, Ju88-C, Ju87 and He 111

The folder can be loaded with OAW if you copy G-AllSelV4 into your OAW folder, or the files inside it will ned to be manually copied and pasted into your EAW directory if you are not using a file manager.
**************************************************************************************
How it works:
Running the "JIM2008V3.EXE" lets you make all the mission parameters for a single mission outside of EAW.
When you click "Fly" the "JIM2008V3.EXE" creates a file named "SingMiss.mpf" containing these settings in your EAW "Savedata" folder. Then it launches "JIMeaw.exe" which first reads the data from "SingMiss.mpf" and then goes straight into flying the mission.
As it uses no EAW screens there is no 7217 error.
***************************************************************************************
More advanced stuff:

Once you have got it up and running you can learn how to save and load your missions, which saves a lot of setting up. You can also learn how to choose your loadout.
I'll cover this in a separate document.

If you have any problems then PM me at the EAW forum at SimHQ

Large Pilot Map Sprites: (LargePilotMapSprites.zip 11.7kb)
by VonBeerhofen aka VBH.
This addon doubles the size of the in game Pilot Map's sprites giving better visibility and orientation of the battle area.
To install: Extract the files into your EAW folder or into an OAW folder of your choice.

Small DSETUP: (SmallDSETUPDLL.7z 41kb)
by Microsoft.
A Smaller DSETUP.DLL file that you can put in your EAW main folder to replace the larger footprint one, save HD space and Memory. This is from the DX9.0c June 2010 DirectX File from Microsoft.

This file is required by EAW to load. The DSETUP.DLL itself loads up the other DirectX files the game requires.

Small Or Empty Movies.CDF: (SmallorEmptyMoviesCDF.7z 2.55MB)
by -E and VBH.
A completely empty Movies.CDF replacement to save you nearly 290+MB of space on your HD on a full install. (copy into your EAW directory, no more intro or plane movies thereafter, useful if the Smacker films are crashing the game.).

Win2000 Patcher / Launcher: (v1.2Win2000Patcher_Launcher.zip 24kb)
by ?.
Just drop the files in the same folder which contains EAW.exe and double click SetEAW2Win2K.cmd. Voi-lá !! Eaw runs under win2K !...
Note from MarkEAW: This file is very old. There are better methods today (2023) to get your game running without needing this patcher. See my 'Troubleshoot Help Document' for information.

Windows 2000 OS Check Removal v1.1.0: (v1.2Windows2000OS_CheckRemovalv1.1.0.zip 15kb)
by Kippercod.
This patch removes the check EAW makes to see if its running under Windows NT, allowing it to run under Win2k machines. It DOES NOT remove the need for having the CD in the drive...

These are Reg Fixes for older older computer systems and really here just because they existed and where useful back in the day. Some are quick fixes and some are instructions on how to manually fix the issue. They may not work anymore, but it's worth a shot when used on the proper hardware and OS version. See my Troubleshoot Help Document for proper help.

These are some of the wrapper programs that allow older DirectX/Glide games to work on newer computer systems. These programs allow you to avoid the 7217 graphical error message, correct colors within the menu screens of EAW and other problems. For WindowsOS, most are Win32.

See my 'Links Page' for where to download more wrappers than index here.

See my 'Troubleshoot Wrapper Help Document' for some information and settings.
